The New Way to do Math

A Skype collaboration. Some excited students. Problem solving. Communication. Thinking. Reflecting and moving on.

Today, we had a chance to collaborate with some students at Sendai International School in Sendai, Japan. Over 1/2 hour, they hashed out a problem about 100 lockers, trying to figure out which remained open by the end of a process.

It’s a new way to do Math. “We worked faster because we worked together,” the students said. “Wow, they really can communicate their mathematical thinking,” the other students said.

Fun for the students and a fun inquiry. It’s the beginning of a great collaboration.
