Reflections on Learning

I attended a conference in Beijing recently called Learning 2.012. It was a technology conference, focused on the future of learning. I thought I might only learn new tools I could use in my classroom. However, I came out with a lot more. Here’s a collection of quotes that stuck with me. Quotes from Jim Jarmusch, Seymour Papert, and Learning 2.012 presenters and participants.

We’ve never needed creativity more than we do now.
It isn’t magic. It happens by applying ordinary tools of thoughts to existing materials.
We need to produce people who know how to act when they’re faced with situations for which they’re not specifically prepared.
Remember that everything is a remix.
Nothing is original.
Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination…

Devote yourself to a creative project
Let go.
Let in boredom..it leads to great things.
Break down social barriers.
Get social with each other.
Get social with students.
Live life…

Sometimes we tell kids too much.
Allow students to own their space.
Don’t fight the students’ interests. Use it.
Play games.
Play.
Create.
Don’t let your know how limit what you do.
And, in the end…
Breathe.
